HUB or Help? Conversation about cultural exchange with some creative hot spots in Africa
On Tuesday evening 31 May artists and cultural organisations will share their fascinating experiences with cooperation projects in three cultural hot spots in Africa: Cairo, Dar es Salaam and Dakar.
Hedy d’Ancona (former state secretary and minister for Culture and former chairwoman of Oxfam Novib) will lead the discussions with theatre maker Sabri Saad El Hamus, a visual artist, an architect and policy makers about questions such as: What are the benefits of cultural exchange between Africa and European countries? Is the creative power of Africa’s creative hot spots strong enough to guarantee equal and sustainable partnerships? How can a cultural hub influence other sectors of society and the standard of living in the city, region or land? Which policy instruments should be developed now that cultural exchange and development aid are growing apart and budgets for both these themes are being cut.
